From the last week of February through most of March, you will have the opportunity to catch Rays spring training baseball at Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, FL, approximately an hour and a half southeast of St. Petersburg and surrounding areas, such as Treasure Island, Indian Shores, and St. Pete Beach.

The Tampa Bay baseball spring training schedule includes 15 home games in Port Charlotte, so there are plenty of chances to come out to the ballpark and get in on the action.

Single Game Tickets

Regular Season single game tickets for the Tampa Bay Rays are on sale now. Ticket prices can range from $10 up to more than $200, depending on the location of seats, opponent, day of the week, and time of day.

The Rays’ home opener at Tropicana Field is on Thursday, March 28th. The team starts the season with a four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at 4:10 p.m. Tropicana Field is located at 1 Tropicana Drive in St. Petersburg. It’s less than a 20-minute drive east of the Treasure Island/St. Pete Beach area. 

Premium Seating

Finally, Chalk Box seating allows you to sit like a king in oversized padded seats with armrests, tables, cupholders, and built-in storage beneath the seat. These comfortable seats are found along the first baseline. Chalk Box members also get complimentary parking based on purchased seats and invitations to special events.

Spring Training Schedule

The Tampa Bay Rays spring training schedule starts on Saturday, February 24th with a home game against the Atlanta Braves. The team is home that entire weekend, with a Sunday game against the Detroit Tigers before heading to nearby Sarasota on Monday the 26th to play a split-squad game against the Baltimore Orioles at Ed Smith Stadium. Other home games on the spring training schedule include those against the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, Minnesota Twins, and Baltimore Orioles.

Most of the home spring training games start at 1:05 p.m. Thursday, February 29th (vs. Braves), Saturday, March 2nd (vs. Red Sox), Wednesday, March 13th (vs. Twins), Friday, March 22nd (vs. Twins) and Saturday, March 23rd (vs. Orioles) are split-squad games.

Some fun promotional events are scheduled for a few of the home spring training games. Sunday, March 1st against the Twins is Pajama Pants Day, with something for the first 1,000 fans who enter the Park. On Saturday, March 7th vs. the Orioles, the first 500 fans get a free Tampa Bay Rays sun shade for their car, and on Sunday, March 8th against the Pirates, the first 500 kids under the age of 14 get a cheer stick.

Built in 1987 and undergoing a $27 million dollar renovation in 2009, Charlotte Sports Park features a 360-degree pedestrian concourse, a playground, an outfield bar, and a covered pavilion. The Park also contains batting cages, practice fields, and even meeting rooms.

You can really make a full day when you attend a Tampa Bay Rays spring training game since the Park is attached to Tippecanoe Environmental Park. There, you can canoe or kayak, walk nature trails and a boardwalk, and even go birdwatching.

Regular Schedule

As mentioned, the Rays’ regular season starts on Thursday, March 28th against the Blue Jays. Besides the teams in their division, the Rays have home game stands against the Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Guardians, Houston Astros, Minnesota Twins, Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Angels, and Oakland A’s.

National League opponents that the Tampa Bay Rays will host are: New York Mets, San Diego Padres, Washington Nationals, Miami Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks, and San Francisco Giants.

The Rays hope to continue and exceed their 2023 season success. The Rays made it to the postseason in 2023 for the fifth straight year but lost in two games to the Texas Rangers in the American League Wild Card Series. The Rangers went on to win the World Series.

To help with the goal of reaching the playoffs again and going deeper into the postseason, the team recently initiated a trade with the Seattle Mariners that brought versatile player Jose Caballero to the Rays. Caballero may start at shortstop for Tampa but can play other infield positions as well.
